The American Medical Association (AMA) released an updated Specialty Impact Table for Medicare physician reimbursement in calendar year 2023. The estimated impact on the hematology/oncology specialty is now -1% for 2023. Though, individual or practice level effects of these changes will vary based on geographic location, service location, and mix of services billed.
The table combines estimated changes in relative value units billed under the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule along with the updated conversion factor (CF) for 2023 from the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2023, which mitigated the planned 4.5% Medicare physician reimbursement cut by increasing the 2023 CF 2.5%. The updated 2023 Medicare physician payment schedule CF is $33.8872. The CF prior to the increase was $33.0607.
